Why Every Student Should Try Coding

I am twelve years old, and last month I taught a computer to say "Vanakkam" every time it started up. It took me four hours, two crying breaks, and one very patient YouTube tutorial. It was the best feeling of my life.

People keep telling students like me to focus on "real subjects" first and treat coding like a hobby. I want to politely disagree. Coding is not a hobby. It is the art of making your ideas walk around outside your head.

Think about it. When you write an essay, only your teacher reads it. When you paint, only our classroom wall sees it. But when you write code, you can build something a thousand people use by tonight. A quiz app for my class. A reminder bot for my grandmother's medicines. A website where young writers can publish their work. Yes, like this one.

Coding also teaches you the one skill school exams never will: how to fail gracefully. My programs crash ten times before they run once. Each error message is a small teacher saying, "Almost. Try again." Imagine facing exam results with that mindset.

You do not need an expensive laptop or a computer-science uncle. You need curiosity, a free browser, and the stubbornness to ask "what if?" until the screen answers back.

So here is my opinion, loud and clear: every student should try coding, not to become a software engineer, but to become someone whose ideas are never limited by their age.
